Setting up Your E-mail Program to use Bortnet

All Bortnet accounts support authentication based on the user's e-mail address or secure authentication. Not all e-mail clients support secure authentication methods. We recommend using secure authentication, if possible. This will also allow you to send e-mails through Bortnet from multiple e-mail addresses.

Change you outgoing e-mail server
To use the bortnet e-mail server with your e-mail program, find the preferences window, and change the name of the outgoing (SMTP) mail server to mail.bortnet.com. If you are unable to connect to bortnet, change the server to mail.bortnet.com:2525.

Setting up secure authentication
If your e-mail client supports secure authentication there should be an option to use SSL or TLS. Select this option. There should also be a place to put in a userid and password. The userid will be the full e-mail address you used to register for Bortnet SMTP. For example, if you used joe@foobar.com, that entire e-mail address will be your userid. The password is the password that you chose when you signed up for Bortnet SMTP service. We support most kinds of secure authentication. For example: Password, MD5, Kerberos, etc. Try different methods supported by your e-mail client until you find one that works. The Password method is most likely to work.
